History Of Hip Hop Culture in Bihać Formation Period 80s and 90s
📀 Late 1970s – Early 1980s: Foundations of Hip Hop in Bihać
Late 1970s: Beytz D began collecting and listening to Break Beat and Funk (Sugar Hill Records, Enjoy Records) before the term “Hip Hop” was widely used.
Early 1980s: Jasko Pecenkovic "Peceni" (Jasko Pečenković "Pečeni") became Bihać's first B-Boy; formed Brejkeri sa Nove Četvrti (New Quart Breakers) with Beytz D.
1982–1990: New Quart Breakers performed at city schools (Avnoj, USAOJ, Technical High School) and weekend discos Borici (Borići) dorm in New Quart and Brklja, Zegar (Žegar) and Sokolac neighborhoods. Rivals included Harmani B-Boys or Harmani Breakers coming from Harmani/Centre local communities and neighborhoods.
Notable city B-Boys: Brki, Pico (Pićo) Copy, Hary, Jakanni (RIP), Dejo, Grba, MCA, Mera MC, MC Burzoti, Pečeni, Dicka (Dićka), Dule, Bestak (Beštak), Dino, Drugi Dino, Boban, Pipi etc.
Where music was bought: Department store "Beograd", "RIZ" record and cassette music store.
🎧 Radio & Tape Culture of The 80's
1984: Beytz D discovered Dona Muzički Vlak (Dona Music Train) also known as the Rap Attack among local Hip Hop fans (Radio Velika Gorica, Slavin Balen); tapes were shared throughout Bihać.
1986: Beytz D found Electrofunk Premiere on Radio 101; encouraged others to listen Mondays for new Hip Hop music and updates.
Significant and influential radio shows of that period such as Po vašem izboru (At Your Request) aired on the first program of Radio Zagreb and Rock Express aired on the second program of Radio Zagreb hosted by Ante Batinovic (Ante Batinović)
🎬 1984–1986: Hip Hop Cinema Hit Bihać
City cinemas screened films like Wild Style, Breakin, Breakin’ 2, Beat Street, Krush Groove.
These films inspired breakdancing, DJ techniques, Hip Hop fashion and aerosol art (graffiti) in Bihać.
👥 1985–1986: Rise of Electroshock Crew
Electroshock Crew formed: DJ Vuki, MC Fresh Mix, Mister B, MCA.
After Beytz D joined, crew renamed to Screw Boys.
The group grew into a real movement that gathered and united all lovers and devotees of the Hip Hop culture in the city.
🏙️ 1987–1990: Expansion of the Scene
1987: Beytz D moved to Zagreb for university, connected with the Zagreb Hip Hop scene and brought tapes/records back to Bihać.
"Rupa" (The Hole) became the key underground club, located in the basement of the Bihać city municipality building.
Rupa hosted "battles", graffiti art, fashion shows and DJ/MC performances from 1987–1990.
🎤 1989: First Major Hip Hop Event in Bihać
First large Hip Hop party held at Club Azra, Hotel Park organized by Screw Boys.
Hundreds attended; Screw Boys ran the entire event (flyers, DJs, music).
🎶 Screw Boys — Music and Breakup
The group recorded several tracks but none were officially released.
Inspired by the movie Colors, they wrote a final hit “NIGHT KILLER”, with major input from Dejan Pavlović and Polar ICE.
1992–1995: The Yugoslav War ended the crew’s journey and dismantled the scene.
